Painting
” I let the paint take control, letting streaks of vibrant hues reveal themselves once applied to the canvas. I use lots of pretty colors, but I like to let the ugly ones shine too. “
I seek to preserve an immediacy:
– of a brushstroke
– of a gesture
– of a memory
– of a color’s vividness
to achieve a sort of primal quality: a rawness, an urgency.
A composition to me usually comes from a real life thing I have witnessed that has made a high visual, and often emotional, impact on me. My perspective is my subject matter, often up close crooked. I look for shapes that feel meaningful next to each other.
I have always had a messiness and chaos in my life, this is reflected within my chaotic physical palette where I mix my paints, one atop another. I let the paint take control, letting streaks of vibrant hues reveal themselves once applied to the canvas. I use lots of pretty colors, but I like to let the ugly ones shine too.
